Hello and welcome to our very own website

Here you can find lots of information about our Pony Club including a calendar of events for 2008, the latest results from local competitions and even a fun photo gallery, so keep checking the website to find images of you and your horse or pony.

The Tanatside Hunt Branch of the Pony Club was started in 1935 and covers a beautiful area of Powys roughly between Llanfyllin and Welshpool.

We have a thriving membership and offer a wide variety of activities throughout the year. We are very active members in Area 5 and members can regularly be seen travelling up the A5 and along the A55 to Area competitions. Our record in Area Competitions is very successful and whether it is Winter League Show Jumping, Dressage, Games or Eventing, we are there flying the Tanatside flag.

We try to provide plenty of activities for those members who are not so competitive and we also arrange trips and social gatherings.

We have a very active Junior Committee, made up of older members who enjoy giving something back to the club. The Junior Committee concentrates on helping our younger members, new members and novice riders and the interaction between the older and younger members is extremely valuable.

We welcome parental input and have a large committee to try to cover all aspects and levels of the club.

Pony Club Novice  Championships

Congratulations to Ivy Freeman-Attwood who came 2nd in her arena at the novice pony club

championships on saturday, she only missed 1st by 0.4%. A fantastic result as she

was competing against other children from all over the country.

Ivy now thinks dressage isn't too bad and especially

enjoyed standing on the podium to recieve her rosette and prizes!

On sunday the novice event team (Caitlin, Georgia, Meg Davies and Hannah Coe)

tackled the one day event. The day didn't start too well as they had to stand in a

downpour whilst having their tack check. Fortunately things only got better.

They all did good tests, the sun was starting to shine by now and then went

on to all show jump clear. No mean feat as the course is on the side of a hill at Kelsall.

Then they tackled the cross country course. The water had been proving the bogey fence

with lots stopping and even falling off. However the Tanatside girls

rode it brilliantly and posted 3 clears between them.

Then it was a nail biting hour or so to await the final results.

They had done brilliantly and came 6th (out of 43 teams from all over the country)

with Caitlin 6th ind in her arena and Georgia 5th in hers.

Well done girls for representing the club so well.

'Lucy Freeman recently qualified for the national finals of the

Tetrathlon at Hartbury college.

There she was adopted by the coach of the Irish national

squad, a guy called John Flood. He took her and Neil off to a secret

location on a local farm where they had a practice shoot set up.

Having studied Lucy shooting, he gave her some coaching

and leant her a competition gun. With his

help Lucy increased her previous score of 260/1000 to 760/1000.

Lucy also improved her swimming and swam nearly 8 lengths in 3

minutes. Having been alerted by one of the Irish parents that the

cross country had been re scheduled to Saturday instead of Sunday

Lucy and Neil set off for home at about 5.30pm Friday.

Sadly it was not to be Lucy's weekend. On bringing

Charles in from the field at 8.30 that evening she realised

he was lame. Lucy then found out she had been lying in

7th place so it was a real shame she couldn't carry on as her 2

strongest disciplines-the cross country and running.

Neil and Lucy however are immensley grateful to the lovely Irish!

Well done Lucy for representing the tanatside and a quote from her

proud dad "well done to my little girl who is solely

responsible for her achievement"!'.

Pony Club Championships

Congratulations to Kat Morgan, George Coe and Lucy Freeman who competed at

the Pony club championships earlier this week. Kat rode Master Davies in the open

eventing competition on Monday. The show jumping course proved tricky with lots of

poles down and clear rounds far and few between. The xc was very tough and Kat

rode a terrific round on Davies, sensibly following her trainer's (Charlotte Jones)

advice at all the fences. She ended up in 12th place which was terrific over such a

tough course. George and Lucy rode on Tuesday in the intermediate event. Again

the show jumping provided many faults and the xc had lots of questions. Both rode

really well and George on Fleur did especially well coming 10th in a tough arena of

over 40 competitors. Well done to all three of them and to their support teams on

 both days!!

 AREA DRESSAGE REPORT

Tanatsiders once again found themselves making the long journey to Somerford Park,

this time for the Area dressage competition.  Many decided that it was

too far to go just for a four minute test and took

the opportunity of going XC schooling, making the most of the wonderful facilities.

Everyone did brilliantly well and hopefully enjoyed and learnt from the experience.

The novice team of Cerys Jones and Danny (Cerys also rode Smartie HC),

Timonie Orrit (Scampy), Ivy Freeman-Attwood (Tarzan) and Chloe Andrews (Cuckoo),

finished 6th beating off 2 other clubs on the same mark,

because of higher collectives.  Ivy amazed herself by winning in her arena

with a whopping 73% and qualifying for the Novice Championships.

The intermediate team of George Coe (Fleur), Hannah Coe (Carrols Touch),

Emma Duncombe (Out of the Question) and Caitlin Jones (Blitz) finished 5th.

George was 2nd in his arena, after having to wait for

about an hour for the judge to turn up.

Meggie Evans (Fraggle) rode as an individual and was also 2nd

in her arena. The open team of Anna Jones (Briget), Mair Schmeinck (Fallon),

Sarah Jane Barton (Shannon) and Kat Morgan ( Del) finished 4th

in a very tightly fought competition, with very few marks separating first

from the rest.  Lucy Freeman competed as an individual and also put up

a polished performance. Everyone was immaculately turned out,

behaved impeccably and were a great credit to the branch.

Thanks also to Lynn Lewis, who came and acted as team trainer

and Jo Phillips for plaiting tails so superbly!

See under NOTICEBOARD for schedule

Congratulations to all our members who did so well at the area event at

Somerford Park. The novice team of Hannah Coe, Georgia Dixon, Caitlin Jones and

Meg Davies rode brilliantly and made the course look easy, which it certainly wasn't

catching out many of the other teams. They came 2nd with Hannah Coe ind. 3rd in

her section, Caitlin 5th in her section & Meg 6th in hers.  So the team have qualified

for the Novice Championships to be held at Kelsall Hill at the end of August.

The day wasn't over and George Coe and Lucy had two brilliant rounds in the

Intermediate class to come 2nd and 3rd, with George qualifying to go the the PC

Champs at Draycott house in August. Then in the Open class Kat gave a masterly

performance on the fantastic Davies with a  double clear (and a smile to the fence

judges on the way round!)  and came 1st in area to qualify for the championships.

Commiserations to those whose day didn't go quite according to plan and hopefully

You’ll be back next year to have another go.

Many thanks to Karin & Sam Unwin, Gladys Jones & Hannah & Sally

For kindly giving their whole day to fence judge!
